How many ozs does your baby eat??

i'm just curious how much other babies are eating.....Alyssa is almost four weeks and is still eating 2 oz every 2-3 hours...

Nate is eating between 3 & 4 oz every 3 - 3 1/2 hours. Its almost like sometimes he wants more but I know if he eats more there will be some projectile spit up coming my way.

Amy How old is Nate now? I keep fixing 4 oz bottles hoping she'll eat more but she doesn't and am starting to wonder if I should take her in to get her weight checked to see if she is gaining at all....

Brenden is eating 3 1/2 oz (sometimes more sometimes less) every 2-3 hours. I don't know how much he weighs but when I took him in for the reflux at 2 weeks old he weighed in at 10lbs 4oz...he was 8lbs when he was born! *shock*

Lexi eats 4 oz. every 2-3 sometimes 4 hours - she cluster feeds especially at night. However of course I only know when i give her a bottle, otherwise she is nursing...She has gained a pound a week and is now 9 olbs 2 oz and was 7lbs 2 oz at birth!!! Her brother ate and gained the same way - little piggies!!!

Daniel (1 1/2 weeks) is eating 2 oz every 2-4 hours he goes back and forth but usually 4 hours. Doctor says that is fine he will eat when he wantes to as long as he is gainning weight. Good luck girl!

Landree is gaining weight like a champ, but she only eats 3oz, every four hours...and her last bottle before bed she will sometimes eat 4oz and than sleep for 5 hours...and then take 3 to 4oz more until the morning. There really is no way to force them to eat more...I do notice if I wait for her to tell me she is hungry (i.e. hand sucking and maybe a cry) than to force feed her every few hours, she eats better.

Wait wait, I think the question that should go WITH this is, "What did your baby weigh at birth?" I think babies who were born larger would require more Ozs to keep up with the amount of food they were getting in utero.

That being said, Joseph is taking 3 ounces every 2 or 3 hours. It was four for a bit, then we went back down to three. We may bump it back up to 4 tho cuz he is hungry ALL the time... is that how it works? if you bump it up, they are less hungry as often?

Tera - don't try to force feed her more then she can eat. If she only eats 2 or so ounces, let her eat that. Soon she will go through a growth spurt and start eating 3 or 4 ounces. Like Kim said, if you let them sleep until they are hungry instead of keeping them on a schedule, they will eat better. Let her tell you how much she wants to eat. If you notice after feedings that she is still munching on her hand or waiting for that bottle, try another half an ounce, and build from there. Don't freak out if your LO is not eating a lot. Sometimes it just takes some time for them to start eating more, especially if they had a low birth weight. HTH

Logan weighed 8lbs 2.4oz at birth. He nurses so I don't know the exact amount he gets from there, but he will sometimes have an additional 2-3.5oz afterwards, sometimes immediately and sometimes not for an hour or so and sometimes not at all. And i totally agree with Bekah - larger babies eat more.

Oh yeah Elise. My sister was 10 pounds when she was born (mind you she was 2 weeks late AND born vaginally - ouch) and my mom said she was eating almost 8 ounces at a month. She was a normal weight her whole life until she had her first son, then gained more with her second pregnancy. now, had she not gained all that baby weight, she would probably not be obese. But.. that is no longer the case. As she likes to put it, "That ship has sailed."

thanks for your responses!! I'm not forcing her to eat every 2 hours that is just when she starts fussing for a bottle. I'm not so worried about it was just curious what other babies were eating!!! I'm also thinkin of my other two kids when they were babies but they were both bigger than she was at birth!

Tera-she really sounds like my ODD...who was smaller like Alyssa at birth, and because we were first time parents and she was smaller, we did set our alarm clocks and wake her up every three hours regardless to eat...needless to say, I got spitup on a lot!!!

Nate is now 2 weeks 2 days old. With this mornings bottle we made 4 oz but he only ate 2 and back to sleep he went. It seems a shame to waste that formula but if that is all he wants so be it.

My little Jeremiah usually only eats 2 oz every 2 hours sometimes 3 hours.But tonight he has ate 2 oz at 9 30pm 1.5oz at about 11 or 1130pm and at 1230am is eating another two oz...so he may be getting ready to go to 3 oz bottles and he will be 3 weeks tomorrow. He was 8lb7oz at birth and on my digital scale he was 10lbs last week...

Well ALyssa is finally eating 3 oz every 2-3 hours and she is now 4 weeks old! Still in Newborn diapers and Newborn cloths! She is still so small to me but other people say she is getting bigger so that's good!!

well joey was at 6 oz every 3 hours, but now he's down to 4 or 5 every 2 1/2 to 4 hours. Should I be concerned? I don't wait til he cries to feed him. I am usually on the ball trying to get him fed before he has to cry at all. But even if he's so hungry that he starts crying, he falls asleep before he finishes it and its almost impossible for me to get him to finish it. But even during normal feedings... he just loses interest. I don't know what I should do. Just make him less oz and not bother with it, or should I take him to the doctor?

In case you're wondering: He's not feverish, not sleepy all the time, in face he rarely sleeps during the day, but is now out for 7 or 8 hours during the night. He's not overly fussy, although he does get that way, but he's a baby... so I expect a little fussiness. but I don't think he's actually sick. He coughs here and there but not a lot and sneezes every now and again, but only cuz he'll have boogies all the way up his nose. Other than that... he's healthy as he can be!

I think he is doing fine...Landree typically only has 4 bottles a day. She will take anywhere from 6 to 8oz every 5 or 6 hours...and she goes to bed around 9pm and sleeps until about 7am....so she goes 10 hours at night with no bottle. At first I was concerned because my ODD was failure to thrive at one point (she was under the 5% for weight for like forever and we went through a multitude of tests all to find out she is just little) as long as he continues to gain on or around the curve they have been on they are okay. If he starts refusing to eat anything than I would get concerened...but I don't think it is anything you need to call the Dr. about, maybe bring it up at his 4mo apt though just to ease your mind.

Daniel is going througth ther same thing we were at 6oz now we are back to 4oz and he is eating at weird times refuses to be on a consistent schedule. I think it is ht growth spurt or something but i think it is normal. my doctor said as long as he has like 4 bottles a day you are good and 6 diapers. so we have that so figure we are good jsut a weird phase.

i think so too. I may have to scale it down to 4 ounces even. but my mom made a point. He's acting like a breastfed baby. He's eating less but at sooner times than before. Where he was eating 6oz every 3 hours, he's eating 5 oz every 2 1/2.

okay, so i'm pretty sure he was going thru a growth spurt b/c now he's movin on back up to 5 and 6 ounces every 3 hours or so. My mom mentioned that she didn't think it was right that he was taking so much formula and that with my sister (2 weeks late and 10lbs when born!) was taking 8 ounces like every 4 or 5 hours, so her doctor told her to start her on baby food and rice cereal. So I don't know, I know that was a LONG time ago, so I'm calling our doctor today and I just hope that he can tell us what to do with the feeding and stuff.

BTW, he's pooping normally now! YAY! ^_^

Brenden eats about 5oz sometimes 6 or 7 every 3 hours. I think he's hitting close to 20lbs now. Age isn't really what determines how much they should be eating...their size and appetite are. We do 1 rice bottle, 2 cereal feedings (with spoon) and now one vegetable feeding per day along with the formula. My little dude needs substance and the pedi agreed! You really should call your doc and get an opinion!

I think I heard somewhere its like 32 oz of formula in a 24 hour time period if they eat anymore than that they may be ready for cereal.... I know my sister had large babies(11lb7oz 23in long boy &10lb 12oz 21in long girl) and her pedi recommended her to start the cereal way earlier than 4 months because they were eating so much so often...

Joy my pedi told me the same thing about the formula. Much over 32oz in 24 hours and they are likely to get a belly ache! Brenden topped at 40oz and that's when we started cereal. He was headed back past 32oz when we started vegetables. Can I just say that he LOVES and I mean LOVES eating the vegetables?!! He's only had green beans and sweet potatoes so far but he nearly comes out of his bouncy with excitement!!! I'm going to video it and put it on U-tube so ya'll can see it....it's hilarious! His eyes are big, he's kicking his feet and waving his arms so hard his bouncy is nearly touching the floor while you can see his tonsils anytime the spoon is near his head! Last night he was licking, yes licking, the sweet potatoes off his bib! LOLOLOLOL

Alyssa is eating 6-7 oz every 2-4 hours has her last bottle between 8-9 and sleeps til 6-7 the next morning! I Love Sleeping All Night!!!
