name changing question...

I am sending stuff in to change my name instead of taking my son to the social security office and having dirty nasty people sneeze and cough on us... But It says I need two forms of identity. My Driver's License (which is fine, I have to go change my name there anyways), my old social security card, and our marriage certificate that must show both names (old and new). But, my marriage certificate doesn't show my new name, just my old one. And I won't get my marriage license til next week i think. Should I wait and send them my license instead of my certificate? I don't even know if our license will have both my names on it... maybe I should wait til I change my name at the DPS... ugh this is so frustrating I think I'm going to have to call them.

call them...they might be specific in what is acceptable. I thought they needed a copy of your marriage certificate to verify why you are changing your name...either that or a probate court order (for those that change their name for other reasons, such as divorce ect.) I personally found it way easier to do it at the office, can someone waht Joey for you to do it? I just needed me, my Lic. and my marriage certificate.

i agree with kim - call and ask them directly - each state is slightly different and that way you will know exactly what you need.

When I changed my name at the DPS my Social Security Card had to be changed first - if I remember correctly. DPS wont even look at people without correct SS cards. I dont know how to do it mail wise. I went down to the office and changed my name.

i went down to the offices as well but they had to have my marriage license to do anything.i brought it to the dmv and down to ss...

well my problem with calling them was nobody ever would pick up. I finally got a hold of the place and sent my stuff in. thanks guys.
