Weight loss Empty Weight loss

Post by redheadmommy Wed Feb 11, 2009 9:45 am

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering how everyone else feels on here. I am a frist time mother, but I have always been a plus sized girl. I gained 29 pounds when I was pregnant, which put me up to 302 pounds, ouch, but I say whatever!
I ended up having a c-section so I could go to the gym for 8-10 weeks after.
I have been going to the gym for 8 months now, when I started at the gym I was 289 pounds, now I am down to 275. Luckily I'm not someone that get's discouraged, cause that's only 14 pounds in 8 months, but I do A lot of weight training so my personal trainer says I've most likely gained a lot of muscle weight. I've lost 4 inches off of my hips, 2 off my arms, 2 off my waist, 1 off my bust (but that's OK cause I really don't have the "typical" plus sized bust, I'm only a b cup) lol. I've been doing a lot of soul searching and have finally decided that I am very happy where I am with my body and my husband just loves my "curves"!! He's 6'2iches and weighs about 240. I am just so SIck of the diets that tv pushes on people, and how TV seems to try and make you feel that if you are "big" that you can't ever be happy or healthy. I have a hard time agreeing with that. I've been working out regularily 3 days a week, 1 to 2 hours each time I go to the gym and yet I'm still plus sized, but I've never felt better. It just feels good to be moving. So, I'm no longer going to be getting on the scale to see what "progress" I've made. I'm going to keep going to the gym 3 days a week because believe it or not, I love it and I'm not going to focus anymore on what pant size I'm in. how do you ladies feel? I really believe you can be plus sized and still be healthy and my doctor actually agrees with me! Smile

Redheadmommy- You sound like your very much built like me...I hardly ever find other plus size mom's with small chests!!!! And man is it a pain in the ass to try to find Bra's...they don't make them with small cups for us big ladies. I have about the same stats you do....and I have been plus size since a kid. I am looking into and planning on having the Lapband surgery done...in my case I have a strong family history of diabetes, I also had gestational diabetes with this last prenancy, also a family history of hypertension and heart disease. For me I know my Dh is fine with me and my size as he is a big guy, 6'4" and 340lbs, but I feel like if I don't do something drastic about my weight and health I won't be around very long for my kids...so the surgery is the right thing for me.

Kim- I too am looking into the Lap Band.We also have a very strong family history of diabetes. I've also got high cholesterol(which I've been working hard at correcting)and while it's not dangerously high I don;t want it to be. I also have a chipped knee cap and the chip has gotten under the knee and shredded the cartilage so I have none left and it's bone rubbing on bone which is very painful. My knee doc won't do surgery until I lose weight because otherwise the recovery will be horrible(he said 100lbs and I lost 50lbs since this time last year-go figure that it all happened being preggo and then shortly after).

Redheadmommy- Yeah I'm a plus sized mommy as well and working on losing weight.I don't like how I look or feel or how my clothes fit.I'm tired of paying more money for a shirt or pants because they're bigger.I'm not concerned with being super skinny but I want to feel better about myself.

to mythreesons: I'm all about feeling good about myself. And of course, if you don't feel good about yourself and have a history of health problems, then by all means necessary lose the weight that's necessary. I'll send out good energy "vibes" to you. I know it's tough to lose the weight! My mom is a "borderline" type 2 diabetic and so is my grandfather, that's why I'm going to the gym. Not so much for the weight loss, because I'm actually perfectly happy the size I am, I wear anything from a sixe 18-22, depending on the brand, but more for the health aspect of it all. And I love how good I feel after a hard workout! I hope all works out well for you in the end, because our health is the most important of all. Like you said, we all want to be around for our kids!

to Kim- Tell me about it! It's so hard to find a b cup bra with a 40 inch diameter band. I can find plenty of B38, but I find the 38 digs into my sides and by the end of the day I have a huge red welt around my back! I thought when my milk came in from my pregnancy I'd get huge breast, Lol, Not a chance!! Still small, but oh well, gotta take what I got!! Good luck with the lap band surgery if you do decide to get it. I've heard about it here, but note sure what the cost is.

I too was hoping pregnancy would give me big boobs, even for a little while...but nope, my boobs never changed and my milk never came in. Luckily my insurance plan covers the surgery if you meet certain criteria.

I would love to have the Lap Band surgury but my DH is so against it. He doesnt believe in elective surgury of any kind unless you are horribly disfigured or burned in a fire etc. I cant even get laser hair removal! I have been working to no avail to lose weight since giving birth. My issue is I know I really wont lose until I can work out and I swear I have looked for it but I cant find the time. I hit the ground running at 5:30 AM at the latest and dont stop until I go to bed at 10:30PM. I guess I am just going to have to shrink my stomach by not eating very much and get down to having a baby carrot a day. That seems like it should do the trick!
I am unhappy with my clothes that are a little to tight and since being pregnant my body is now shaped slightly differently so things cling where they didnt cling before. I still have about 10 lbs to get to my pre preg weight and it just seems to want to hang on! Say la vie! I will keep working at it and do my best not to get discouraged.

Well I am 245 ish and wanna lose weight But scared to death to even think about a surgery.. esp since my sister had the gastric bypass done and came so close to death because of it. I know there is the lap band too but that makes me nervous too. Anything where they would have to do any cutting no matter the size makes me nervous.lol.. I like to take the kids for walks and am sure that would help shed the weight but in the middle of winter its not really any option... I am not extremely disgusted with my weight but I do wish I could drop some..at least to get to a size 10 12 or 14 would be good. and I am between 18/20 sometimes 22 depending on the brands but like cloth pants I can wear XL

Eeer.. I hate weight! Right after I had Dominic I quickly lost all my pregnancy weight and a few more. I started going to the gym and I really though this would be my time. Ya RIGHT! I was going to the gym because they had cut my hours at work and I had a free membership through my insurance. Well.. shortly after I started going they cut the membership and restored my hours. There goes that idea. I was down to about 252. Since then I have put back on about 5. Mad I know it's because I'm not moving around and I've been eating really bad. I'm just stressed I guess and I've always went for food in those times. At this point, I just want to lose some tummy and start making better food choices. I don't want my daughter having a hard time with her weight all her life the way I have.

I asked my doctor about lapband, and she laughed at me. She said I was way to young and she wouldn't consider refering me until I had really tried some other alternitives under supervision. That if I didn't change my habits the band would do me no good. I see the point, it just wasn't what I wanted to hear.

To all of you BBW(Big Beautiful Women). I know it's really hard to lose the weight. Heck, I'm only 28yrs old and I have a hard time of it, but I think the main thing is to slowly try and change the habits. Cause you can be guaranteed about one thing, if you suddenly cut out all the foods you really love, you' re just gonna rebound. I was told by a nutrition specialist to try something like this. I really Love chocolate, I usually eat between 2-5 bars a week, so she told me try to replace 1 bar the first week by a fruit that I like. So I have done that, I replaced the chocolate with rasberries. Just simple tricks like that. Like lets say you drink 5-7 Soda cans a week, the first week cut down by one can and replace it with either water or something like crystal light! Then so on and so forth. I actually do find this easier. I weigh about 272 right now, but I'm not necesarrily all "flab". I've got quite a muscular build. I do lots of weight lifting at the gym. And I think we all need to learn to love ourselves first the way we are and work on our self esteem, because even as you lose the weight, if you don't like yourself to begin with, you probably won't like yourself 50lbs lighter either! Keep strong, keep healthy and of course, keep on smiling! Very Happy
