I need everyone's prayers...

My SIL is 28 weeks, and they just took her in for an emergency Csection. Her blood pressure was 258/197. I have not heard any news as of yet (she's been in surgery for about 40 min) I am going to see her tonight, but was told that her son has slightly less than a 50/50 chance of survival at this point.

Please help send good thoughts/prayers her way and I will post with news when I know.

She is very obese, 5'2" and on her first DA months ago she was very excited she didn't weigh as much as she thought, "only 452lbs". Her blood pressure was an issue with her last preg, she has a 4 yo. DS who was almost 2 months preemie due to her blood pressure apparently causing her to go into preterm labor. He doesn't have any major issues, the only issue he has is Thyroid and up until about a year ago they thought he was Austitic.

She has been on BP meds for the past 3 months and all of a sudden she had a spike yesterday during a normal visit. I spoke with her this morning and was told that they were going to keep her regulated through the weekend and then see where things went.

That changed within an hour. I am not sure what changed it. I am not able to see her for at least 2 more hours since I am at work, and she has been in surgery for almost 2.5 hours. Having had 3 csec myself, I know that the baby should be in nicu by now and she should be almost done - given things went "to plan".

I am a nervous wreck, they didn't even tell her hubby because he freaks out too much - terrible huh?

Ok, just heard from Mom, Baby William was born about 1hr ago, weiging 2.4lbs. He is in NICU but not needing to be in an incubator at this point. oxygen, heated bed and the other standard tubing at this point. So far Mom said he is doing "OK given everything" was adivsed that can change in a heartbeat.

SIL is in recovery, I will be seeing her in a couple hours so I am keeping my fingers crossed that nothing changes during that time. If he is still stable, I will get to see him tonight.

WOW, hope everything turned out well. Sounds like it was a good start with the NICU. Let us know when you get any updates.

Ok I'm back, Michelle, sooooo cute!!! I am glad to see you!!

Update, Mom and Baby William are doing good, william was touch and go the first 24 hours, no incubation , just the "normal" tubes. He is not being allowed to nurse so he is on IV nurishment. I had to TALK my SIL into pumping for him, she didn't see "the point" im like, hes preemie, very preemie, that is the point right there, you don't have anything better to do while your in the hosp anyways.

SIL was in ICU on fri night for her bp, they finally got it down late late on sat. I am not sure how her csection is healing or if they were able to do the regular cut on her since she is so large. I know she was complaining of a lot of pain on friday and still some yesterday.

Not sure when she gets to go home, william will be in nicu until at least mid december.

It was surreal to see this child knowing that MY baby is slightly bigger than he is. A real eye opener. Humbling kind of experience. I will keep everyone posted as I can or as there is news. Thank you as always

I'm glad your SIL is okay and that her little one is doing well! I was watching Discovery Health the other day and saw a 25 week old preemie baby. It's hard not to cry. And once you've had them you wonder how you were so lucky to get a baby with no problems and that came right when they were supposed to. I will continue to keep your SIL and her LO in my prayers. I hope she heals up okay too!

Apparently the baby has gained 2 oz since birth, a very good sign. I didn't even know my SIL was home last night. I talked to her today and she's all "maybe I'll make the trip to see him" Im like ?maybe? really only ?maybe? WTF. I suppose everyone is different though

OMG...I would be camped out there...but you are right, everyone handles things differently...glad he is doing well though.

My son was in nicu for 6 days, the first 2 days (he was transfered to a lower care nicu since he did so well so fast) I got in "trouble" for being there so much since I didn't accept pain meds or let them wheel me there. But even after I went home, I was there like 6 hours a day. She just told me she isn't going to make it down there today. She hasn't seen him since Yesterday morning, hasn't held him since sat

one more thing...I am wondering if she is depressed. I don't know how to approach that

I dunno, she might be stressed out because of all that's happened. If she is depressed, or if you think she is, talk to her about it. Maybe she needs someone to talk to her about what happened and let her know its alright and that her baby will be just fine. I know this may sound morbid, but maybe she is trying to steel herself for a worst-case-scenario. Talk to her, I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

My LO is still in the NICU and I can't even imagine not seeing her everyday. I usually spend about 8 hours there and then it kills me to have to leave her. I have to come home though to try and recover myself. I'm so swollen that I have to get my feet up sometime, and I feel guilty for that but I know that I'm not good for her if I'm not healthly.

As PP said, maybe she's sheilding herself for worse case...it's sometimes difficult to be positive but when those thoughts cross my mind I feel like I owe it to my baby girl to stay positive to be as supportive as possible to her.
I have seen mom's come in and not want to hold their baby and I just don't understand.

I agree kim. I couldn't stand not being at the hospital with my LO. I would be a nervous wreck. I know when my DD was inthe hospital I was there 24/7 the entire week she was in there even though my mother was in ICU in the same hospital for the same week.

I also agree that she maybe trying to keep herself from getting any closer to her LO for fear that she maybe losing him soon. I am sure she would love you to talk to her or at least be an understanding caring sounding board for during such a hard time.

Is your SIL doing any better about going to see the baby?I can't remember if you posted this or not, but does she have any other children?Or is this LO her first?How is he doing?
