4 month checkup and shots - Page 2 Empty Re: 4 month checkup and shots

Post by rocknrollmommy616 Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:22 am

well, Joey went to his 4 month appt today. It sucked royally, but Joey was REALLY good and patient even! Our doctor has been out for a week and a half and i chose Monday(his first day back), of ALL days!!! So we were at the Dr.'s office for like 4 hours almost! But Joey slept thru a lot of it, and then ate and played. He was really good, but my patience was wearing really thin. Like the guy would go in and talk to his staff, not even business. He would just talk about his trip and some doctor that charged him $150 and didn't even look at his throat with a flashlight or some crap. Anyways, he was talking to them about that for like 10 minutes. I wanted to be like, "uh dude, you really don't have time to chit chat, you have a FULL waiting room of patients!" I couldn't believe it. But, he was actually REALLY nice when we met him. He was really apologetic about the wait and he talked to Joey and told him he didn't need a shower(untaped his diaper to check his intestines or bowels or something). But he was pretty nice. I gave Joey Tylenol 30 minutes b4 we left 4 the doctor, but since we got there at 1:50pm and didn't actually SEE the doctor til like 4:30(didn't get the shots til 5:20), it was pretty much a pointless cause. When he got the shots he cried, then screamed at the last one, but a couple of minutes later he calmed down pretty nicely. I guess I'll have to keep the Tylenol with me next time. Thank god I brought a bottle! And if we'd have stayed any later, I'd have had to run home and get another one! I hate to say it, but hopefully these shots will give him the same coma-like state as last time so we can go get our taxes done at H&R block tomorrow and also stop by WIC to renew our benefits... anyways, joey weighs 18lbs 8oz(90-95th percentile), 24.5in long(10-25th percentile), and head circumference of 17in(50-75th percentile). sooo I dunno he's short and fat with a slightly large head lol. The damn doctor rushed us so bad I never got to ask him about solids! But I could probably call him tomorrow and ask.

BTW Joey is eating his solids pretty well. I keep forgetting to pick up rice cereal, but he is eating the 1st foods REALLY well. He likes peas and applesauce pretty well. He didn't seem to care for bananas or pears too much, but those were the ones I started with. Once his legs feel better, I'm going to start trying the solids again. I'd hate to put him in that high chair with his legs all sore from the shots. anyways, there's the update girls. hope your appts are better than mine! >.<

Bekah - You, too, have a big boy! :-) Brenden's head was above the 98th percentile just like his length and weight but he's got a BIG head....it's not the same size as the rest of his body! LOL I hate when docs are like that. I hope you have a better visit next time or you might consider changing. What pedi doesn't talk about solids at the 4 month visit? They should be following a checklist.... Good idea on the tylenol, I'm taking it with me next time also! He should react to the shots the same way as last time since he got the same ones but Brenden didn't. He ran a fever this last time. Hope your little guy feels good today!

We didn't have our appointment yet, but just wanted to say, I never take tylenol with me. I always ask if he can have some. Then they bring the bottle and they have to give it to you because they can't use that same little dropper on another kid. Then Vola! You get a FREE bottle of tylenol.

hehehe... evil I know.

Apparently I have the peanut of the group...but not surprising as McKenna is a peanut and has been from the start. Landree was 12lbs 8oz, and in the 25%, she slipped down from the 50th at 2mos....and 24 1/4in, (50th %) and I can't remember the measurement for the head but it was just slightly below the 50th. Dr.'s aren't concerned with her slip down the chart as McKenna did the same and we went through all sorts of tests for her just to say she is small...so I am hoping that if she continues on the same path as her sister they won't make us go to the specialist again and see that it is a family thing, I am sure they just find it ironic that these two huge people create such tiny babies. Oh and she wasn't at all happy with her shots and has been pretty crabby most of the day between sleeping. So we have been giving her tylenol.

Kim - She is definately a peanut!!! Oh how I miss those days with Dawson!!! My grandma was the opposite as you....she was about 5'1 and weighed 100lbs 9 months preggo...she delivered FIVE 10+lb kids in teh 50's and early 60's. We know what that means....NO EPI...NO PAINKILLERS....just lying flat on your back until the baby comes out.

Oh and dont forget that after giving birth they still worked the fields and made dinner etc...Ugh that's tough!

MichelleL-Here's my # if you can figure out how to send that little movie clip.1-315-558-0735(any moms on here feel free to text me or whatever-I have Verizon-I'm home all day and bored most of the time).

Bekah- So Joey is about a pound bigger and an inch shorter than Lucas LOL...

Kim- Landree is a peanut but that's ok, good things come in small packages!

Michelle(mnelson80)-Um yeah I tried that trick and they wrote me a prescription.Apparently some insurances will actually fill scripts for things like tylenol or cold air humidifiers...Not mine though(and I thought mine was like the best EVER)But yeah she wrote it for 2 refills...

i must have like the most patient baby ever. whenever we go to the doctor or out to do stuff, he is so chill. he is sweet and playful, then tired, then wakes up hungry. So now i bring a bottle with me whenever we leave the house. I'm totally stupid and forgot a bottle one time, and ended up being at the mall(for pics) for like 3 hours! He was sooooo hungry! So now, no matter how long I think we are going to be out, I bring at least one already heated up bottle with us. I have sooo learned my lesson!

I forgot o mention why i said all this. you know, joey had his shots yesterday and i thought he would be as tired as he was last time and sleep all day. nope... he's been normal old joey! Which is good, cuz I didn't want him to get all crabby and feverish, especially since we went to H&R Block today. he was really good all day, even tho he was pumped full of shots yesterday. I'm so proud. How did I get so lucky? Y'know with my luck, my next one will be a total pain in the butt!

Bekah- I was so scared of that...McKenna was a fantastic baby, and Landree...she is even more mellow, the Dr even asked if she was always laid back and easy going like she was at the Dr's...I am deffinitly not testing my luck with a third though...LOL

Bekah and Kim- I thought my first was easy until I had my second.DS#2 was sooo easy and then we had Lucsa. He's by far the easiest. Someone told me its because you know what to expect the second and third time around so you're more mellow which makes them mellow...I don't know if that's true but so far it seems to be the case!

awww I'm sorry. My mom made a good point the other day. She said she loves to brag on joey, but she almost feels like she has to justify it and be like, "yeah he's good now, but that can change. When he's two, he might be a nightmare!" Her friend Kathy had a really colicky baby, so she felt kinda bad that joey was soooo good when he spent the night one time(they were also staying over b/c of some moving issues). But I almost feel bad telling people joey is really good. Cuz it's like, you feel bad for bragging, especially if someone has a baby with a problem that is not really fixable, like colic.

Bekah- Don't feel bad for bragging, he's your baby and your proud! I suppose I should say that while ODS was an easy baby, almost the day he turned 1 year old he became my personal challenge and still is my tough kid. DS#2 has a sweet personality and always has.

Bekah - think of it this way...brag now because there might come a time when he's a terror and you don't want to brag about his behavior!! then you can think back to these times when he was mellow...... Smile LOL

Well Dominic did great today. It was a whirwind morning though. I was up at 7:10 and somehow I fell back asleep. I woke up at 8 and had to get both kids and myself ready for an 8:30 appointment.. EEEk. Lucky the place is only like 5 min. from the house. We made it out the door, but I forgot his shot cart. Oh well. Then I have new insurance so I had to monkey with that at the office, they called us back and I was still on the phone trying to update the insurnace. Of course the one and only time the Dr. office is running on time is when I need them to be behind..

Anyway. He weights 17lbs 5oz.. so he finally slowed down on the weight gain. He's down from over 100% weight to 90%. He went up from 25% height to 50% height at 25 inches and is still 50% head, 42 1/2 cm.

As you might have saw on the brag board he started rolling over on Sunday from Back to tummy. Grandma said he went from tummy to back on Friday, but I've yet to see that. He's also getting his two bottom teeth. The Dr said she could totally feel them and they could come through at any time. She also said I should start giving him formula at night so he sleeps through the night. I don't totally know how I feel about that. But I'll try. If it works well, maybe I'll move my pumps to the morning and afternoon. If I loose supply oh well. I'm just not totally sure I'm ready to give up nursing all the way yet.

He got his shots and didn't even cry at the first one, he just made a weird face like hey, what are you doing? Cried a little at the second one and then it was over. We were in and out of there in a flash! FOR ONCE!

Post by Guest Tue Feb 10, 2009 12:56 am

Well today was Jeremiah's 4 month check up...Things went good although I was in the waiting room for quite awhile it seemed...and when I first got there the receptionist lady called me up to desk after I signed in and asked me if I had an appt today... I was like yeah I have the appt card where it was wrote for an appt today at 2 pm...she goes oh ok because you weren't on the schedule..so maybe that why it seemed like it took a bi..but psshh they should put it in computer before writing on the cards...anyways.. Jeremiah is all done with the nebulizer she said he is all cleared up...YAY...He weighs 15lbs 12 oz... which is 75th percentile and is 25.5 inches long also in the 75th percentile and his head is 16 inches not sure the percentile for that she didn't say he recieved his rotavirus and this all in one shot and was to have another shot but they had a shortage of it so she said she will catch him up next appt in 2 months He did really good during the shot...He was all smiley with the nurses then they did the poke in his left leg and he got such a serious look on his face like hey why the heck did you do that but not a whimper pout or cry. I was so shocked that he did not cry because last time he cried not alot but still cried but this time nothing..I'm still shocked by it. All my other kids were criers during their shots.. And also they didnt even give tylenol either..I guess they don't do that no more I asked and she said no but you can give him some at home later if he needs it..so thats different... all in all though it went good I think I was there 45 minutes to an hour the time in the waiting room felt like that alone..

Joy - That sounds like exactly what Dominic did when they gave him the shot.. "why did you do that?".. it was kind of funny. And me too.. after my brag about getting free tylenol I totally forgot about it because I was in such a rush. Poor guy didn't even get any till last night.

Well I just got back from our 4 month appt. Oh how it breaks my heart for him to scream in pain from the shots. My little one is a cryer when those shots start. Before that he is all giggles and smiles and loves the Dr and all the nurses.

Well he is 15 lbs 8.5 oz (60% for weight), 26 1/2 inches long (90% for height) and his head is 16 1/2 inches (30%) so he is a long thick kiddo with a little head. LOL! I guess its good he looks normal! They arent worried about it so I'm not.

I was told to hold off of feeding him food for another 2 months. (YIKES - see the oatmeal pics) and I had started giving him sweet potatoes last night... So we are ok with rice cereal every once in a while but nothing on a regular basis until he is 6 months old. All because he has a sensative tummy. They want to wait and let his digestive system mature more.

So everything is looking good except he has another ear infection and we are going to start another round of antibiotics. It was so hard taking and leaving him at daycare today. Hopefully he will be ok.

Thats All for now!

Amy, I guess b/c I didn't get on the board for more than a month after Aubrey was born I didn't realize Nate was born on the same day as her...what time was he born. (I just read it at the beginning of this thread)
Her 4month was supposed to be this morning but is changed to Monday so they can do all that other stuff.
Don't you just love his birthdate 10-9-8.... she was at 9:42am
Maybe we discussed this before and I'm just losing my mind.

Amy - It's funny how their stats add up! Dawson was always a long super skinny big head and so far Brenden has been a giant in every direction.....period! LOL I'm suprised your pedi wanted to wait on food! Both of my boys have sensitive tummy's (especially Dawson) and my pedi's always wanted to start food as soon as possible.
